The scholarship, presented annually since 1952, honors Paul N. Derring, former executive of YMCA Program at the University. Under his leadership for nearly half a century, the YMCA served as a center for campus life programming. This scholarship recognizes outstanding leadership and service by a member of the current Sophomore class (2011). A scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic school year to the individual selected. Nominees for the scholarship should possess impeccable character and have exhibited leadership in one or more of the following areas recognized by ODK: 1) Scholarship, 2) Campus Government, Local and Religious Affairs 3) Publications / Media 4) Creative and Performing Arts and 5) Athletics. A minimum cumulative credit average of 3.00 is required for nominees to be considered.
