The G. Burke Johnston Award is given by the Alpha Omicron Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa in recognition of excellence in teaching and leadership in the academic community.This award was established in 1974 to honor G. Burke Johnston, the C. P. Miles Professor Emeritus of English at Virginia Tech. Johnston was the Dean of Applied Sciences and Business Administration and the first Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. A recipient of this award should exhibit the characteristics of Dr. Johnston: One who has excelled as both a teacher and an administrator, who exhibits a variety of interests and talents, and who shares Dr. Johnston's joyful dedication to learning. Truly, a 20th century Renaissance man. All Administration, Faculty, and Staff are eligible for this award.
